Spinner U5-620, the first in the UK, supplied by recently appointed Whitehouse Machine Tools.
At Greenway Pepper Precision Engineering, a subcontractor in Newcastle-under-Lyme, aluminium components are being machined much faster following the installation of a Brother high-speed, 4-axis, vertical machining centre (VMC) from Whitehouse Machine Tools.
For example, a medical component that used to be produced in one hour and 10 minutes on a standard, one-year-old VMC now takes just 26 minutes to machine on the Brother. Overall, cycle times were more than halved for producing this and five other components transferred in the first month
An aluminium billet was put on a new Brother TC-22B-O vertical machining centre shortly after it arrived last summer (2010) at the Crediton works of Adaero Precision Components. The finished component came off in 13 minutes, whereas previously it took over twice as long (28 minutes).
In an unusual move by Japanese machine tool builder, Brother, which specialises in producing high-speed, 30-taper-spindle machining centres, a high torque, 10,000 rpm spindle option has been introduced for two of the models in its range.
